As we know physics is the scientific study of matter and energy. It is a vast subject engulfing various sciences in it and encompasses the study of the universe from large galaxies(macrocosm) to the smallest subatomic particles(microcosm). physics challenges student’s imagination with concepts and applications. Physics laboratory plays a vital role to bring clarity in the mind of the students regarding basic laws of nature and enabling students to learn theories in a more elaborative manner. It is an integral part of almost every educational institution. Equipped Physics laboratory is an essential tool to inculcate scientific temper among children.

Physics laboratory of Montfort school has been helping the students in improvising their approach towards the subject for ages. A dark room which is converted in to planetarium, a glass room which is a six sided polygon made of huge mirror sheets to demonstrate multiple reflection and a storeroom which contains varieties of apparatus from old Cambridge(England made) version to new improved version(local made) are the three annexures to the main lab. The main lab carries information about more than 100 great physicists and advanced concepts like theory of relativity, space exploration, God particles, etc., to impart firsthand information to the students and visitors. Also, it is filled with numerous gadgets and working models which unmasks the concepts are adding fuel to the creativity of the children. Most of the students utilized the lab to the maximum extent outside the class hours at the expense of their playful times and their innovations brought many laurels to the school in state level and national level.
Walking stick with electronic eye for blind man, Generating electricity from speed breakers, zero accident on rails, Satellite controlled boats for fishermen at IMPL, Electricity from seesaw, Conversion of waste plastics in to crude oil, Removal of pollutants from the surrounding, Automatic dustbin that separate degradable wastes, Controlling the power supply using a PC, Spectacle for drivers to avoid accident, Modified fitness cycle to generate electricity, Nuclear Reactor with 100% safety measures, IR trap for intruder planes, LED wall for communication and a Shelter to avert natural calamities and bio war, etc.. are the few samples. Chopped head, holding 230V live line, melting man, perpetual water tape, candle in the water, disappearing objects in the water and endless well are the few illusions which were the talk of the town during the exhibition time. During the solar eclipse our students have done many experiments to check the variations in Earth’s gravitational field and Earth’s magnetic field and submitted the report.
In order to broaden the boundaries of the experiments to the research level and to incorporate international standard to it, nano technology lab is introduced as a part of the physics lab by one of the eminent scholars in the field of nano particles. Montfort students have done series of experiments related to nano technology and synthesized copper, zinc, iron and silver nano particles which was covered by reputed Newspapers. As they love their alma matter, Montfortians who spread far and wide will remember part played by the Physics laboratory in acquisition of scientific attitude in their life forever.
